I’m in New York City at the moment for the well-renowned CMJ Music Marathon, and this is a real city! Great venues I’ve found so far include Pianos, Cake Shop and Arlene’s Grocery in the Lower East Side; and Glasslands and Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg – the Dalston hipsterville of Brooklyn essentially. The first two bands I saw over the past few days have been two of the best as it happens – Scottish act Casual Sex and Aussie boys Dune Rats. Casual Sex have a very charimastic frontman and they put on a good show regardless of the audience still being quite sober at this point. Then Dune Rats came out kicking and screaming and didn’t let up until the end. These guys are beyond energetic and they have a lot of humour to their show with the crowd generally alternating between dancing and cracking up.

The cream of the crop for me so far though was Tei Shi. Tie Shi is a solo female New Yorker; very beautiful, very charismatic, very cool. Tie Shi was playing the Crack in the Road x Disco Naiveté night along with Yum Dee Boys and Money. Far too much hype about Money for my likin’, they are just typically wet and British. Tie Shi is the real deal, here’s her latest tune and her best in my opinion –
